This 90-minute intermediate-level training provides clinicians with practical strategies for preparing clients diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) for trauma processing using Accelerated Resolution Therapy® (ART). The training reviews the relationship between trauma, invalidating environments, and the development of BPD. Core components of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) relevant to stabilization and readiness for ART will be discussed. Participants will learn validation and commitment strategies to enhance client engagement and identify specific ART scripts and augmenting interventions appropriate for this population. Case examples will be included to support clinical application.
Learning Objectives: By the end of this training, participants will be able to:
- Describe the role of trauma and invalidating environments in the development of Borderline Personality Disorder.
- Identify at least three core components of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) relevant to preparing clients for trauma processing.
- Demonstrate how validation and commitment strategies can increase client readiness for ART sessions.
- Identify at least two ART interventions or clinical strategies appropriate for clients diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder.

Instructor Bio Nancy Blume, MA, Licensed Psychologist, is a National Basic ART Trainer and Master ART Clinician with over 40 years of clinical and supervisory experience treating trauma and neglect. She is certified by the Linehan Board of Certification in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and served as Program Lead for a DBT program for adults and adolescents for 12 years. Nancy has extensive experience preparing clients diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder for trauma-focused treatment and integrating DBT principles into ART sessions.
Target Audience: Licensed mental health professionals trained in Accelerated Resolution Therapy® who provide treatment to clients who present with attachment wounds.
